September 2017:  Mike, a Korean War veteran, sleeps on a bench at Washington Park in Quincy. Stranded in Quincy for a number of weeks, Mike has been panhandling for money and sleeping outdoors before catching a bus headed east.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates that 39,471 veterans are homeless every night. About 1.4 million other veterans are considered at risk due to poverty, lack of support networks, and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing.
